In IN MUSEUM, a spectator is invited to enter a dedicated space and reveals to a dancer, almost in secret, a hope, an intimate wish. From this sharing is born a personalized response, a free dance of a dazzling spontaneity that conjures up the forces so that the spoken wish comes true. Originally danced by Marie Chouinard, this solo is performed by two dancers from the Compagnie Marie Chouinard, each in one of the two rooms of the Water Lilies: Valeria Galluccio and Carol Prieur.

.

IN MUSEUM evolves to the rhythm of the exchanges between the audience and the dancers. Between each interview, the performer refocuses themselves, before giving shape to the invisible world. “The present is our only eternity,” Marie Chouinard said when creating this piece in 2012, which has since enchanted audiences at MoMA in New York or the Venice Dance Biennale.

The performance brings to mind the white-clad Pythia, the prophetess of Delphi. This ancient Greek character delivered her oracles in a trance-like state, in a language that only the temple priests could interpret. While the history of the Pythia and the act of divination may remain a mystery to us, the inscription engraved at the entrance of the temple of Apollo, however, has lost none of its truth: “Know thyself, and thou shalt know the universe and the gods.”

The performers make movement a shamanic language. They connect with the person who has come to place a wish in their ear, allow a prayer to rise from their bodies, and inscribe it in the invisible.
