A devotee of Funkstyle and Popping, Linda Hayford represents a form of hip-hop that addresses intimate subjects by employing incredibly complex body movements. Her dance examines the physical metamorphoses caused by human emotions. Along with the singer, composer and musician Nosfell, with whom she collaborated for Recovering(2022), she performs a duo piece in which they put themselves in each other’s shoes.

Linda Hanford’s evocative, chimerical dance meets up with Nosfell’s whimsical surrealist music to create a hypnotizing duo.
Recognized as an ambassadress of Popping, Linda Hayford has developed an emotional, sensorial approach to the technique through her creations. Shifting Pop, the constantly evolving choreographic language born of these explorations and experiments, has led the choreographer and dancer to a new bodily awareness and revealed her unique qualities.

An elusive artist, Nosfell has developed an unclassifiable musical world through his albums and live performances, seesawing between pop, rock, folk and electro and combining French, English and “klokobetz” – a fictional language he created in order to best express his daydreams. Cultivating a highly organic relationship with his music, he imbues it with yet more relief by the strange intensity of his stage presence.

Continuing the collaboration that began with Recovering, the Rennes choreographer’s third creation, the two artists have developed a brand new piece specially for the Musée de l’Orangerie, a performance in which body and sound resonate with and drive each another.

Biographies

Linda Hayford

Although Linda Hayford is recognized as an ambassadress of Popping, it’s in the encounter of genres and postures that her dance evolves. Above all a devotee of stand-up dances inspired by funk and its various aesthetics, she engages with Hype, and Popping of course, as well as with Locking, New Style, and House , impelled by the versatility and mix of styles required in team battles. As a member of the Paradox-Sal group formed by Ousmane Sy, and of her own INsideOut company, the Rennes dancer and choreographer continues on a trajectory made up of openness and plurality, undertaking aesthetic research focusing on metamorphosis. Her inaugural solo piece, Shapeshifting, materializes the power represented by the transition from one shape to another, in an intimate fresco where chimeras succeed each other by turns. In AlShe/Me, Linda Hayford teamed up with her elder brother, Mike Hayford, to examine the transitory character of Popping. In 2022, Recovering got three dancers questioning the process of healing while appropriating the tools of the “Shifting Pop” vocabulary developed by Linda Hayford. Her journey through senses and actions, has led the choreographer to see alteration as a subject for reflection on identity that culminates in the complexity of movement.

Nosfell

Nosfell is one of the most unusual figures on the French contemporary music scene. Active since the early 2000s, he has developed an unclassifiable musical universe (combining pop, rock, chanson, folk and electro). A remarkable singer, he stands out for the breadth of his vocal range, running from the highest to the lowest notes. A lover of words, their meanings and sounds, he sings in English, French and “klokobetz”, the fictional language he created in order to best express his daydreams. Cultivating a highly organic relationship with his music, he imbues it with yet more relief by the strange intensity of his stage presence. His discography currently comprises five albums, the most recent being Echo Zulu, which came out in 2017. In October 2019, at L’Échangeur, Hauts-de-France National Choreographic Development Center, he created a highly acclaimed one-man show, “Le Corps des Songes” (The Body of Dreams), in which he combined his personal story with an imaginary world. To make it happen, Nosfell chose to return to the universe of Klokochazia, immersing his audience in the mythology of this dreamed-up land, rooted in the artist’s childhood revisited by heroic fantasy. In 2021, he presented a second stage show that came close to musical storytelling, titled Cristaux (Crystals). Nosfell is currently working on his next piece, Frères de Lait (Foster Brothers).
