What is the Société des amis du Musée d'Orsay et de l'Orangerie?

Founded in 1980 at the creation of the Musée d'Orsay, the Société des Amis des musées d'Orsay et de l'Orangerie (SAMO) is an association under the French Law of 1901 recognized as being of public utility.

For forty years, the SAMO has been pursuing its mission to enhance the image of the Musée d'Orsay and Musée de l'Orangerie and to contribute to the enrichment of the Musée d'Orsay collections.

The SAMO brings together individuals who are passionate about these museums and who are united by a common vision: promoting the national collections so as to pass their heritage on and share them with all audiences.

Thanks to donations from SAMO « friends », more than 2,000 works of art have joined the Musée d'Orsay collections in all disciplines. These works will remain inalienably part of the national collections.
