Conservation documentation center

The documentation center of the Musée de l'Orangerie focuses on the works in the collection, the Water Lilies and the collection of the dealer Paul Guillaume.

The documentation consists of the artwork files of the Water Lilies panels, the paintings in the Walter-Guillaume collection, and new acquisitions. These consist of documents relating specifically to the work concerned: inventory extract, history, bibliography, exhibitions, analogies, photographs.
In order to reconstruct Paul Guillaume's activity as a gallery owner, from 1914 and 1934, more than 3,000 research files have been compiled on the works (paintings and African art) that passed through his hands.

The documentation center also holds the Alain Bouret archive collection consisting of just over 1,000 items (prints, manuscripts, photographs, and drawings), concerning Paul Guillaume, his activity as a dealer, and as director of the journal Les Arts à Paris (1918-1935).

The works from Paul Guillaume's collection held at the Musée de l'Orangerie are all accessible on the Musée de l'Orangerie website

Conservation library

The library brings together more than 5,000 works relating mainly to the artists Paul Guillaume followed - represented or not in the Musée de l'Orangerie collection -  as well as the artistic context of their creation (movements, production centers, dealers, collectors, critics, etc.), from the time of Impressionism to the 1930s.
The library also contains works relating to Claude Monet and the Water Lilies, at the Orangerie building.

All the catalogs of exhibitions that have been presented at the Tuileries Orangerie since the end of the 19th century can be viewed in the documentation center.
You can find the works on the  collective catalog of French national museum libraries.
The collections are not open access and lending is not permitted.
Consult the online library catalog and carefully note the call number of the work held at the Musée de l'Orangerie before visiting.
