American Friends of the Musée d’Orsay (AFMO)

The American Friends Musée d’Orsay (AFMO) is a U.S. non-profit, tax-exempt organization, created in 2011 to support the Musée d'Orsay and the Musée de l'Orangerie and strengthen the ties between the museums and Americans on both sides of the Atlantic. Since it’s creation in 2009 and it’s acceptance of members in 2011, the organization has known great success and counts almost 300 members.

In the past three years, the American Friends Musée d’Orsay made a number of important grants and held several charity events in France and the United States. With the help of corporate sponsors and private donors, AFMO contributed to the creation of a new graphic arts gallery, supported the exhibition Manet Inventor of Modernity, Degas and the Nude, financed the restoration of Liberty Enlightening the World and gave an exquisite pair of “Moorish-style” chairs and a chaise longue of the American Herter Brothers to the museum. Recently AFMO participated in the funding of the restoration of Courbet’s Artist’s Studio and continues to support exhibitions (many of which travel to the United States), acquisitions, education programming in English, and to encourage gifts of art to the museums.
